Sexual Harassment Policy

As a learning community at Leighton University, we pursue scholarship and academic achievement and personal and professional development. At Leighton University, we seek to create an educational environment that integrates personal commitment, learning, and change in a way that honors humanity, builds strong relationships, and develops a whole person who will be active in making our world better. To become this kind of community, we must share a set of values, convictions, and commitments that guide our lives together.

This document outlines protocols and procedures for the prevention of and response to violations involving sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment, non-consensual sexual misconduct, stalking, and relationship violence. In addition to policies forbidding sexual harassment and sexual and relationship violence, it should be noted that Leighton University has the responsibility to hold all University community members to standards of behavior and a commitment to upholding a workplace free from sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is a form of workplace discrimination. All employees are expected and required to work in a manner that prevents sexual harassment in the workplace. This Policy is a component of Leighton University's commitment to a discrimination-free work environment. It explicitly opposes sexual harassment of its employees and students. In addition, the University acknowledges that sexual harassment is against the law and that all employees have legal rights to a workplace that is sexual harassment-free. Employees must report sexual harassment by filing a complaint internally with the Director of Human Resources. Employees can also file complaints with a government agency or court under federal, state, or local anti-discrimination laws.
